Harper’s Kitchen
An Angel called Harper makes marmalade on Sunday;
Adds some orange essence, and bottles it on Monday.
His recipes use olive oil, honey, fruit and wheat;
His rose petal marshmallows are really quite a treat;
Pancakes and puddings and dumplings cooked with steam;
Profiteroles and doughnuts filled with jam and cream,
Or sprinkled with some cinnamon, or a little nutmeg dust;
Strudels, buns and raisin bread with icing on the crust;
Scones with maple syrup, frosting with a gloss;
Oatmeal cookies, marzipan and wispy Angel-floss;
Tarts, meringues and fritters, muffins on a tray;
Chocolate covered strawberries – he gives the lot away.
Because Harper is an Angel that has no need for money;
Ask him why and he’ll just smile – he thinks it’s rather funny.
But everyone he knows agrees that he’s a marvellous cook,
So he’s writing down his recipes – he’s compiling a new book:
Secret Angel recipes for biscuits shaped like birds,
Flavoured with vanilla and a tablespoon of curds;
All cooked with love by Harper – to simmer or to bake:
Fifty kinds of apple sauce and light green Angel cake.
